Interview with MTV's Casandra Martinez
Casandra Martinez is a 22-year-old Texan beauty who was casted to be on season 5 of MTV’s Are You the One and certainly a fan favorite.
Casandra Martinez graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. While Casandra was an undergraduate student at UTSA, she was involved in a sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha) and held a variety of leadership positions. Cas was also a member of the Pre-Law Fraternity (Phi Alpha Delta) and held the social marketing leadership position.
If you thought Casandra’s involvement ended there, you are completely wrong! Cas was also a member of Leadership Success and a variety other organizations. She has been involved in countless volunteer services which she still involves herself in today.
Cas was born and raised in Houston, Texas which is where she currently lives with her boyfriend Mike Cerasani (who was also on season 5 of AYTO). Casandra and Mike were not perfect matches and the entire cast did not win the show; leaving everyone to leave the show without money, but hey at least she found love.
When interviewing Casandra, she had the sweetest things to say about her family members. She said,
“I have the worlds greatest parents Carmen and Carlos who have been such an inspiration and the biggest support system a daughter could ever ask for. Their constant love, humbled, selfless, and loving characteristics is what shaped me as the person I am today. I have two older sisters Cynthia and Carla who are my biggest role models and whom I look up to with everything in life."
Casandra didn't leave the Dominican Republic with money, but she certainly left with love!
1. What made you want to apply to Are You the One?
“I actually never applied for the show nor heard of AYTO. I never had a TV during college because I was always so busy with school and my sorority. In July after I graduated in May, MTV producers sent me a direct message on Instagram asking me to audition for their hit series AYTO Season 5.
At first I was like uhh is this a scam hahaha, because I never respond to my DMs like that, and they said “no no binge watch season 4 and tell me if you think you would want to do something like this," and then they asked wait... “are you single,” and I said “yes I am very single” hahah.
The very next day I had a hour and a half phone call with the producer of Big Brother and he fell in love with my personality and all my interesting relationship stories, and why I was still single! Then before I knew it, I was informed I needed to grab my passport and get ready for the Dominican Republic."
2. How did people (family/friends) react about you going on AYTO?
“My family was so supportive of me. The only they told me was “Make us proud”. And I sure did. My friends were ecstatic and beyond happy for me. They couldn’t wait to see me on TV."
3. How was your experience on AYTO?
“I had the best experience ever. Who wouldn’t want to live in a mansion for 10 weeks and eat endless food and drink unlimited amounts of alcohol with people you haven’t met before across the country."
4. How did you feel about constantly having cameras in your face?
“I didn’t mind it at all. I thought it was fun to always be surrounded by cameras and having people follow you around. I even got to know the camera people really well and as days went on you would forget they were even there."
5. If you could experience AYTO all over again, would you change anything?
“I wouldn’t. I think I did a great job remaining true to myself and I feel like I did a great job connecting with people who I thought [could be] my perfect match in hopes to win a million dollars."
6. Did you believe in the process of finding love/your perfect match?
“I do believe in the process of finding love because we took a bunch of question compatibility tests in order to narrow down who your “perfect match” is. I can see why Derrick is my perfect match. He has all the qualities I look for in a man and need in a man/my companion. He puts people first, he’s intelligent considering he received his masters in Finance. He’s family oriented and hilarious. Everything that I need in my significant other."
7. What was your favorite moment on the show?
“My favorite moment or I should say embarrassing moment was during episode 5 during ceremony night my foot fell asleep, and when Ryan called my name to go up to lock in I fell straight on my butt. I died laughing and was like omg can we please re do that."
8. What did you learn about yourself from this experience?
“I learned that I am pretty great at being stuck in a house with 21 crazy personalities and not [losing] my mind. I know how to not let negative situations get the best of me and learned to just be happy and keep positive vibes going at all times."
9. What were the best and worst parts about being in the house?
“The best parts about being in the house were when everyone got along, so definitely the very first day in the house of being there. The worst parts were when people had no chill anymore and would just attack people and bring them down for no reason."
10. What do you like to do in your free time?
“I love to spend time with my family, workout, eat, shop, and travel this beautiful world."
